Robert K. Holz, Ph.D.

Robert K. Holz is the Erich W. Zimmermann Regents Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas-Austin. His on campus affiliations are with the Departments of Geography, Middle Eastern Studies,and African/African American Studies. Dr. Holz received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1963.

Some of his more prestigious publications include 'The Manual of Photographic Interpretation' (co-author, 1997); 'Remote Sensing Techniques for Population Estimation of Colonias in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas' (in Geocarto International, 1992); 'The Surveillant Science: Remote Sensing of the Environment' (1973, 1985); 'Urban/Suburban Land Use Analysis' (in Manual of Remote Sensing, 1984); and 'Cultural Features Imaged and Observed from Skylab 4' (in Skylab Explores the Earth, 1977).

Honors and awards Bob has received include the RSSG Outstanding Contributions Award (1998); Director, The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at UT-Austin; Chairman, RSSG; Endowment Committee, AAG; Course Evaluator, American Council on Education; and NASA Group Achievement Award (1972).

Bob's teaching and research interests include remote sensing, cartographic design, air photo interpretation, North Africa, and the Middle East.
